Octopus Garden

In my last 5 or 6 drawings, I have noticed a serious progression of swirls and circles. Pretty much every line I draw, somehow ends up in a swirl or a circle. Even the lines that are somewhat straight...eventually go round in the end. Every time I start a new drawing, I try and expand on what I did in the one before, and with this piece I wanted to push the swirls and circles as far as they could go. What could be more swirly than an octopus?

Owsley

For those of you who may not know, this is a reference to Owsley Stanley, who was a sound man for the Grateful Dead and responsible for recording and preserving many of their live shows. In fact, I listened to many hours of Owsley's recordings as I was drawing this very piece. His nickname also happened to be "Bear".

Phoenix

It is said that the phoenix is the rarest of all birds, for only one can exist at a time. It can live for 500 years, and when it dies, it is reborn. It is a symbol of reincarnation. Each time the phoenix is re-born it is said to transform into a higher version of itself, constantly in pursuit of perfection.

Robin

This piece is a tribute to our son Robin... Much like our feathered friend that inspired his name, he is an early bird (sometimes very early), with a spring in his step and joy in his voice. Even though he's only 2.5 years old at the moment, it feels like life with Robin has been always...

Stanley Park

One winter I took a road trip up to Vancouver, Canada. We stopped to walk around Stanley Park one afternoon. We started the hike in some really deep woods and the trees were so thick that you could barely see the sky though the branches. The first clearing we came to was on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean and mountains in the distance. There was this dead tree right in the center of our view. Out on the last branch there were two bald eagles looking out over the ocean.

Unicorn

This piece was inspired by many long nights at the cabin in Heeney this winter. Heeney is a magical little town that sits in the shadow of the Gore Range... one of the burliest mountain ranges in Colorado. There are no easy access routes, and many of the peaks are still unnamed. They are mysterious and powerful. Once you turn off the main road going from Silverthorne to Kremmling and head west towards Heeney, it feels like driving into another dimension. No phones, no internet, and hardly any other people around.

Wolf Song

There are many theories about why wolves howl at the moon... to coordinate the pack, warn of danger, define territory, etc... Of all the possibilities, I like to think that sometimes... maybe it's just for fun
